For those of you who don’t know, I became a Christian recently & then I was baptized. Check out my previous post about getting “dunked” or Washed in the Water. So now what?
First Steps as a New Christian
“Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” – 2 Peter 3:18, NIV
So what does that mean? It means that now, even though I’m a Christian, I just can’t stop here and continue to live my life like nothing has happened or changed. I must obey God’s commands and live according to His Word…the Bible.
Sounds simple, but I know I’m young and have not encountered too many problems in my life yet.
I know that as a Christian I need other Christians to rely on, to learn from, to pour my heart out to, and to help me walk in an upright manner.
It also means that I need to continue to learn and grow as a Christian. In fact, I hear this is a life-long process. Most churches offer Discipleship Training, or a New Believer’s Class to help with this process. If you can’t find a class, then look for a “Christian mentor” – someone who can answer your questions, study with you, and lead you in your Christian walk. Our church uses the following book for its Discipleship Class:

Getting Started as New Christian
Here is a post to help you become familiar with the Bible:
- The B-I-B-L-E: Truth or Dare – This page contains links to my intro to the Bible. I’m calling it the Bible Basics Series It covers how to use your Bible, it’s history, translations, etc. I know I learned a lot putting it together.
Here are some posts which you may like to use to start your Bible Reading:
- The Nativity Tree: 25 Days of Christ – This is a great place to start. It starts with the Nativity Story (aka Jesus’ birth). My mom & I put together several pages of notes with links to coloring, crafts, & ornament suggestions for you & your kids. I’ve also included the Christmas song(s) of the day!
- 70 (or 50) Days with Jesus – This is the continuation of Jesus’ life & ministry from his childhood to his ascension. We do not have any notes or craft idea pages yet, but are working on them. (Maybe next year!) This Reading Plan bounces around the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John) but we tried to put his life into chronological order to the best of our abilities. We plan on using this Reading Plan each year.
